26 January 2021 Following careful consideration of the government’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has announced the cancellation of this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parades, that were due to take place on Wednesday 17 March 2021 in Downpatrick and Newry.

15 January 2021 Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s plans to restore the key heritage features of Castlewellan Forest Park to help maximise its tourism potential have taken a huge leap forward with construction commenced at the Bothy Yard and the Council submitting a Planning Advice Notice for other areas in the Park.

15 January 2021 The Newry City Centre Regeneration Programme Board met on the 7 January 2021 where a full agenda was discussed that included a report on the establishment and the structure of the Albert Basin Pak Project Board, a request for funding to appoint a design team to develop concept plans for the park and the recommendation to appoint the consultant for the Newry City Centre Regeneration public consultation.

8 January 2021 Mourne, Gullion and Lecale Rural Development Partnership in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) provided local businesses Peter Martin Engineering Ltd and AWP Environmental (Ireland) Ltd (T/A Viltra) grant assistance to develop their businesses through the purchase of a range of machinery to include a Press Brake, Flat Bed Grinding and Polishing machine and Rotational Moulding equipment.

6 January 2021 The Council commenced a catch up Refuse Collection service on Saturday 9 January for residents who did not receive scheduled collection of their waste on the weeks commencing 28 December and 4 January.
