All-Inclusive Sport

Welcome to All-inclusive Sport at Newry, Mourne, and Down District Council.

At Newry, Mourne and Down District Council we are dedicated to providing accessible sports and activities for people with disabilities across our district. Our programs and equipment cater to a range of needs, ensuring everyone can take part in the joy of sport and physical activity.

What we offer:

Autism Swim

We offer dedicated swim sessions for individuals with autism at the following locations:

  • Newry Leisure Centre:

Sunday’s 9.45am-10.45am 

  • Down Leisure Centre:

Thursdays 4.30pm – 6.30pm

  • Kilkeel Leisure Centre:

Fridays 5.00pm – 8.00pm

 

Accessible Bikes

We have a fleet of accessible bikes for those who have mobility issues. These are located at Newry Leisure Centre, Down Leisure Centre and St. Colman’s Sports Complex in Newry. These bikes are accessible and adaptable, enabling people with disabilities to enjoy cycling safely and comfortably and are available to use free of charge.  Groups must have insurance and a qualified cycle leader cycling with them to avail of this service. Should you wish to organise an all-inclusive event across the district our team are happy to deliver the bikes to your venue of choice.

 

Trampolining for Children with Disabilities

Join the Tír na nóg Trampoline club every Monday from 5pm – 6pm at Newry Leisure Centre for trampoline sessions designed specifically for children with disabilities. For details contact email Newry Trampoline Club on tirnanogtrampoline@hotmail.co.uk

 

Be Active for Life Program:

Our Be Active for Life program provides regular, accessible physical activity for all ages and abilities. Within the programme, we have a number of classes which people with a disability can engage in and enjoy. These activities include:

  • Boccia at Down Leisure Centre
  • Boccia at Newry Leisure Centre
  • Chair-based Exercises in Newcastle
  • Chi-me at Newry Leisure Centre and Downpatrick Leisure Centre.

Disability Organisations

We also work with disability organisations to run a variety of disability sports and activity programs throughout Newry, Mourne, and Down council area. Our current programmes include:

 

  • Newry Junior Wheelchair basketball

Every Friday evening from 5pm – 6pm

The programme is a fun and fast-paced session which is particularly beneficial for those with a physical impairment, but anyone can take part!

The classes are open for children aged 5-18 years and are free.

Autism Splash and Swim

Autism Splash & Swim is a new pilot programme launching at Newry Leisure Centre on Sunday 18 May. Designed for children with autism, aged 4+, the sessions offer a fun, supportive and inclusive environment in the water. Recognising that every child’s journey is different, the programme focuses on developing essential swimming skills, building water confidence, or simply enjoying time in the pool. Led by trained instructors, the sessions aim to provide a positive experience that supports each child’s confidence, health, and wellbeing.

 

  • What happens during the sessions?

Each one-to-one session on lasts 30 minutes and is tailored to each child’s needs. Sessions focus on water safety, confidence-building and swimming techniques through engaging, sensory-friendly activities.

  • What age do you have to be to register?

These sessions are for children from 4 years old and above.

  • What is the cost of the sessions?

The sessions are delivered as an 8-week block, with a total cost of £96.

  • Will the sessions be closed to the public?

No, the Sunday sessions will take place alongside our Autism-Only Swim Sessions and a private club booking. The Wednesday and Thursday sessions will run during standard public opening hours.

  • How do I book?
