Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Of the eight Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) designated in Northern Ireland, three of them lie within our district.

You can Experience Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s epic geology, biodiversity and archaeology very easily. Browse the three AONB websites, and plan your trip; you can Experience the AONBs with our self-guided audio tours or you can choose a personal tour guide to bring these special land and seascapes to life with their local knowledge.  You can also use our interactive maps to Experience our AONBs before heading out.

There are lots of ways to Experience the epic land and seascapes and get involved through volunteering, events, training or simply taking a stroll along one of our many tranquil walkways. So get out there and experience all that the Ring of Gullion, Mourne and Strangford Lough & Lecale Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty have to offer.

Situated on the shores of Strangford Lough in an area of natural beauty, Delamont Country Park offers peace, beauty and tranquillity, stunning views across Strangford Lough and a relaxing atmosphere.  Delamont is a place to enjoy that "Feeling of Getting Away from it All".  Delamont is home to the Strangford Stone the tallest megalith in Ireland.

This stunningly beautiful 200 acre Country Park, which is renowned for its favourable, dry, warm climate, offers:

Delamont Season Ticket is valid from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020 and costs £25

Season Tickets purchased on-line will be available for collection the next working day you visit the park.
