Building Control

COVID-19: Update 25.03.2020

Building Control Applications

In light of the latest travel restrictions and social distancing guidelines, we would ask that any building control applications are now posted to us at our Monaghan Row or Downshire Civic Centre offices.

As with all post being received at present, there will be a delay in processing applications. We hope to resolve the delay in processing incoming post in the near future.

Temporary Suspension of Building Control Site Inspections

The Council's Building Control department is withdrawing its site inspection service in line with its Building Control Northern Ireland partner Councils until further notice.

Following the recent escalation of the Coronavirus response, this decision is also in line with the latest guidance from the Public Health Agency in respect of public safety and welfare.

Building Control shall continue to respond to any Dangerous Structure requests.

Anyone wishing to book an inspection is advised to do so by email at buildingcontrol@nmandd.org so that Building Control can keep a record of requests for future reference. These requests shall demonstrate the measures taken in difficult circumstances to attempt to gain compliance.

Builders/applicants are advised to take date stamped photos or videos for future reference before covering up the works.

Please telephone 0300 0137 4003 to report any dangerous structure.

Local councils, through their Building Control Service, have a statutory duty to apply the Building Regulations. These are a set of construction requirements and they include regulations on structural stability, fire safety, energy conservation, accessibility and standards on health.

The role of Building Control includes assessing your plans and inspecting work at various stages as it is being built.

Although Building Regulations are a regulatory function of Council, and enforcement forms part of our business, our job is to provide a courteous, equitable and efficient service valued by all of our customers.
