Inflatable Play Equipment
Inflatable play equipment is very popular, especially at this time of year. It can be great fun for everyone, but only when it is safe and set up properly.
The Council is now working with local suppliers to make sure they follow all safety rules. You can also help keep people safe when hiring an inflatable.
Before You Hire
- Check that it has a numbered PIPA tag.
Or
- Ask to see the current Annual Safety Certificate. This test must be carried out by a trained person within one year of the hire date.
Ask for written safety instructions from the supplier. These should explain how to use the inflatable safely. For example, how many people can use it, age limits, and what to do if it rains or gets windy. Read and sign the safety instructions to confirm you understand them.
You can visit the PIPA website to check if safety tests have been done. If there is no PIPA tag, or you are unsure about the safety checks, do not hire the inflatable.
While It’s at Your Home
- Always follow the supplier’s written instructions.
- Make sure an adult supervises the inflatable at all times.
- Do not exceed the maximum number of users.
- Users should remove shoes and glasses and empty their pockets.
- Do not allow anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs to use it.
- Do not misuse the inflatable by climbing walls or doing flips.
- Check the weather. The HSE recommends stopping use if wind speeds reach 38km/h (24mph), or lower for small inflatables. This is the speed when small trees start to sway.
- Never move the inflatable or remove any anchor points.
