Annual Schools’ Environmental Poster Competition

The Council’s  Sustainability team organise an environmental poster competition each year for Primary and Secondary schools in the district. Pupils are asked to produce an eye catching, colourful poster on an environmental theme of their choice.

The overall winners of this year’s main prize were pupils Jessica Brown from Annsborough Primary School and Kara Cunningham from St Louis Grammar School Kilkeel.

As part of their prize, in 2023 the pupils’ designs with the slogans “Don’t be bitter. Pick up your litter” and ‘Wake up! Earth’s clock is ticking! Alarm bells are ringing’, will be displayed for two weeks on billboards on the Belfast Road in Newry City and on Market Street, Downpatrick.

Runners up in the Junior Section of the competition were Gracie Morgan, Dromintee Primary School and Lucy McGrath, St Mary’s Primary School, Newry and the Senior Section were Maja Frydrych, St Mary’s High School, Newry and Tony Alinta, St Joseph’s Boys’ High School Newry.

All six pupils are pictured at a reception held by Chairperson of Council Councillor Michael Savage where they received specially framed copies of their posters and their prizes.
