Annual Schools’ Environmental Poster Competition winners announced
The Council’s Sustainability team organise an environmental poster competition each year for Primary and Secondary schools in the district. Pupils are asked to produce an eye catching, colourful poster on an environmental theme of their choice.
Ten pupils from schools across the district have received prizes for their winning posters at this year’s Schools Environmental Poster prizegiving event.
The 10 winners, who were presented with a framed copy of their poster and a voucher by Chairperson of Council Councillor Campbell, were primary school pupils Eoin Tumelty, Sacred Heart PS, Dundrum; Éanna McKibben, St Columban’s PS, Kilkeel; John McArdle, Clonalig PS, Culloville; Dobrusia Mankowska, St Mary’s PS, Barr and Erin Mackin, Carrick PS, Burren.
Secondary school winners were Kirya Young, St Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel; Hannah Bradley, Sacred Heart Grammar, Newry; Alex Doyle, Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch; Daniel Campbell, Abbey CBS, Newry and Shea Friary, St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Newry.
Dobrusia Mankowska of St Mary’s Primary School, Barr and Alex Doyle of Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch were specially selected from the ten winners to have their posters displayed as billboards in early 2026. The pupils’ posters were each transformed into eye catching billboard designs and were displayed in Newry City and Downpatrick in early 2026
