How to Apply for a Brown Tourist Sign

We are responsible for promoting tourism throughout the district and co-ordinating all applications for official brown tourist signage.

When you submit an application, the Council will manage the process on your behalf. This includes liaising with Tourism Northern Ireland to determine the eligibility of the proposed tourist destination and working with the Department for Infrastructure on the design, placement and extent of any signage.

Please note that all costs associated with the manufacture and installation of approved signage must be covered by the you the applicant.

A summary of the full process can be downloaded here: Tourist Signage Policy Fact Sheet.

It is important to be aware that even if a destination meets the eligibility criteria, approval is not guaranteed. The final decision rests with the Department for Infrastructure, who will consider factors such as road safety and overall traffic management before granting permission.

For further details, you can review the Brown Sign Policy here.
