Amusement Permits
The Betting and Gaming (Northern Ireland) Order 2004 amends the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (NI) Order 1985.
Article 10 – Amusement Permits
An Amusement Permit allows the operation of:

Gaming machines with a maximum all-cash prize of £500, payable directly from the machine. Use of these machines is restricted to individuals aged 18 and over.

Lower-value gaming machines with a maximum prize of £8, which have no age limit on players.
Rule of Issue
Where anyone under 18 is admitted to the premises:

Any £500 prize gaming machines must be placed in a separate area of the premises, divided by an effective physical barrier.

Only individuals aged 18 or over may enter the area containing £500 machines.

Access to this area must be supervised by management.

Clear notices must be prominently displayed at every entrance to, and within, the restricted area, stating that access by anyone under 18 is prohibited.
Where admission to the premises is restricted to those aged 18 or over:

No person under 18 may be admitted.

Renewals

The Council may refuse to renew a permit if the required rules are not met.

Applications for renewal must be sent before the permit expiry date.

If an application is made after expiry, it will be treated as a new (grant) application, and legal advertisements will be required.
