‘Make it Local’ Returns to Support Christmas Shopping Season
As the festive season approaches, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is reinforcing its commitment to local businesses by relaunching its successful ‘Make it Local’ Christmas campaign.
Kicking off on 24 November, the campaign coincides with the busy Christmas shopping period and celebrates the unique character, quality and creativity of independent businesses across the district. With the strapline, ‘This Christmas Make it Local, #ShopLocal’, the aim is to encourage residents and visitors to support local and independent businesses when making their festive purchases.
The initiative will spotlight businesses in Newry, Downpatrick, Warrenpoint, Castlewellan and Annacloy, using a mix of digital promotion, print media, social media engagement and PR activities to highlight the friendly faces behind local establishments and showcase the wide range of goods and services available.
The campaign will also feature a series of short vox pop videos, capturing local retailers in their own shops as they share what the Christmas period means for their business. These authentic snapshots highlight the importance of festive trading, the challenges and opportunities of the season and the value of community support. Through these voices, the campaign brings real stories to the forefront and showcases the people behind our high streets.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Philip Campbell said, "Our Make it Local campaigns make a real difference to our independent businesses, and we are delighted to extend its impact in the lead-up to the festive season. Shopping local keeps money circulating within our district, sustains jobs and strengthens the fabric of our towns and villages.
"I am thrilled that five exceptional local businesses have been chosen to feature in this year’s campaign. Their stories showcase the dedication, passion and innovation that make our district such a vibrant place to live, visit, and shop.
“Whether Christmas shopping or festive dining, why not discover the diverse range of products and services offered by our independent businesses this season."
The Council thanks the businesses participating in this year’s campaign: Art Studio 23, Blue Beans, Elk Books, McCartan’s, and McGrath’s Farm Shop.
