Building Aspirations Programme Inspires Almost 4,000 Young People Across Newry, Mourne and Down
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has supported almost 4,000 young people to build essential skills for the future through the successful Building Aspirations Programme.
Delivered by Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, in partnership with the Council and Go Succeed, and supported by the James Kane Foundation, the programme has made a significant impact across the district.
A total of 50 sessions were delivered across 14 post-primary schools, helping students develop confidence, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
Through a mix of interactive workshops and real-life enterprise experiences, young people gained practical skills in preparing for work, managing money and understanding how business works.
The programme delivered clear results. Students reported increased confidence, a better understanding of career options and greater awareness of the world of work. Many are now more open to entrepreneurship, with a strong interest in starting their own business and feeling better equipped to take the next steps.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Philip Campbell said, “The success of the Building Aspirations Programme demonstrates the power of partnership in shaping brighter futures for our young people. The Building Aspirations Programme is helping to create a pipeline of confident, skilled and ambitious young people, strengthening the future workforce and supporting the evolving needs of the local economy. In doing so, the programme is contributing to the long-term economic and social success of the Newry, Mourne and Down area.
