Warrenpoint Committee Enjoys Inspiring Visit to Randalstown
Members of the Beautiful Warrenpoint Committee visited Randalstown recently as part of their ongoing efforts to enhance the town’s environmental and aesthetic appeal.
Randalstown was crowned Ireland’s best town in 2024, with the Warrenpoint visitors given a guided tour which showcased the award-winning approach to community collaboration, sustainability and presentation.
During the visit, committee members had the opportunity to explore Randalstown’s award-winning initiatives firsthand, gaining valuable insight into best practices and innovative ideas that contributed to its national recognition.
The visit formed part of a wider capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening local organisations through meaningful cross-community collaboration. The Warrenpoint Committee visit is one of 28 projects being delivered across the District’s Electoral Areas (DEAs) as part of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Local Action Plan’s Thriving Together initiative, which is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Projects in the co-designed plan enable and empower local community partnerships to identify and deliver priority projects on a cross-community basis, supporting the development and long-term sustainability of community groups and hubs. The programme will also foster stronger relationships between organisations, helping to create a more coordinated and resilient approach to service provision throughout the district.
The Warrenpoint group’s visit included a comprehensive walk through Randalstown, where local representatives shared their experiences, challenges and successes in achieving and maintaining an award-winning standard, with the exchange of knowledge and ideas proving both practical and inspiring.
Beautiful Warrenpoint Committee Chairperson, Jerome Mullan, said the group was delighted to visit Randalstown and see the remarkable work that earned the title of Ireland’s Best Kept Town.
“The pride of place and strong community spirit were evident throughout. We’ve come away with fresh ideas and renewed motivation to continue enhancing Warrenpoint for residents and visitors alike. Collaboration and learning from others is key and this visit was a fantastic example of that in action,” he added.
The Beautiful Warrenpoint Committee expressed its sincere thanks to the Randalstown community for its warm welcome and openness in sharing its journey, with the insights gained from this visit helping inform future projects and initiatives as Warrenpoint continues its own path toward excellence.
A PEACEPLUS newsletter is published every two months, highlighting the wide range of projects being delivered throughout the district as part of the Co-Designed Action Plan, providing residents with news on upcoming initiatives and opportunities they may wish to get involved in.
