Public Notice – Service Update
Saturday 4 April – Sunday 5 April 2026 #STORMDAVE
In line with the Met Office Yellow Weather Warning for very strong winds from 2pm on Saturday 4 April 2026 to 3am on Sunday 5 April 2026, some disruption to our services is expected:
Household Recycling Centres
Household Recycling Centres will be CLOSED from 1pm on Saturday. They will reopen as normal on Monday 6 April subject to safety checks and any necessary repairs being completed.
Public Toilets
Public Toilets will be OPEN as normal.
Harbours
Newcastle and Killough harbour gates are CLOSED on Saturday 4 April and will reopen Sunday 5 April subject to safety checks and any necessary repairs being completed. There is no access for pedestrians or vehicles.
Parks and Community Trails
The district’s four Forest/Country Parks (Castlewellan, Delamont, Kilbroney and Slieve Gullion), Warrenpoint Park and Community Trails, Play Parks and Open Spaces are CLOSED from 1pm on Saturday (with vehicular access into the parks restricted from 11am).
All associated facilities (Forest drives, Mountain Bike Trails, cafes etc.) will also be closed.
Due to the increased likelihood and risks associated with flying branches and debris, THERE IS NO ACCESS TO PEDESTRIANS OR VEHICLES.
Caravan Parks will be CLOSED from 12pm on Saturday and will reopen on Sunday following safety checks. Those with bookings for Saturday will be contacted regarding arrangements.
Please note that there may be some delays in the re-opening of the Parks and Open Spaces on Sunday morning (to facilitate safety inspections), but we will endeavour to reinstate public access as soon as possible. Mountain Bike Trails will not reopen until Monday following safety inspections.
Members of the public should also refrain from visiting coastal and beach areas during the period of the weather warning. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Leisure Centres
Our Leisure Centres will be open as normal on Saturday and closed on Sunday as per bank holiday arrangements.
Be prepared for weather warnings to change. When a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.
