Planning Committee Meeting Marks End of an Era at Council Offices in Newry
The final Committee meeting of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council was held on Wednesday 25 June 2025 in the Council Chamber Monaghan Row, drawing to a close a significant chapter in the building’s civic history.
This milestone moment marks the beginning of a phased decant from the Council’s long-standing offices in Newry, which is being repurposed to support the expansion of our local Health Services at Daisy Hill Hospital.
A photographer was on-site to capture the occasion, recognising the building’s pivotal role in shaping the area’s growth and development over many decades.
Reflecting on the moment, Council Chairperson Councillor Philip Campbell said, “This meeting symbolises the end of an era for our Council and the start of an important transition. The Monaghan Row offices have served us well, but it is clear that modern, flexible and accessible accommodation in Newry, is now essential to deliver a wide range of modern services to our residents into the future.”
The Council continues to operate it’s Downshire Civic Centre in Downpatrick, ensuring accessible services are maintained across the district.
While arrangements are in place to ensure continuity of service in the Newry area, the Council remains focused on moving forward with delivering the long-term civic solution that supports improved ways of working, increased collaboration and more accessible public services.
Further updates on the transition and future plans will be shared in due course via the Council’s website and social media channels.
