Lislea Resident wins November Recycler of the Month
Anita McKeown from Lislea is this month’s Recycler of the Month. Anita won £50 in the competition which aims to encourage people to recycle more by rewarding them for their efforts. The competition is kindly sponsored by Castlereagh Motors in partnership with the Council.
Anita’s bin was filled with all the various materials that can be recycled in the blue bin including paper, cardboard, food/drink cans, bottles and cartons. All the material in the blue bin was clean, dry and loose and ready for sorting. Anita said, “Although we have small children in the house we all do our bit to make sure the right stuff is put in the right bin. It gives me great satisfaction to know that most of what we waste can be turned into some useful again. I’m delighted and surprised to win £50 and can’t wait to treat myself for Christmas!”
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Cllr Naomi Bailie said, “It is very important to use your blue recycling bin to help reduce the amount going to landfill. I encourage everyone in the Newry, Mourne and Down area to take the recycling challenge and see if they can recycle more and possibly become the next Recycler of the Month.
The recycling officer checked bins in Lislea and was very pleased to find so many people using their bin to its full potential. Residents are reminded that food waste, tissue, polystyrene food trays and plastic wrapping CAN’T be recycled in the blue bin.”
