Digital Makers Programme Showcases Innovation and Future Talent Across Newry, Mourne and Down
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council celebrated the achievements of young innovators at a special showcase event as part of the Digital Makers Programme, delivered in partnership with Sentinus and funded through the Council’s Regeneration, Business Support department and The Go Succeed Programme.
The initiative supports the district’s future entrepreneurs by giving students hands on experience in digital technology, App development and innovation within real business contexts. Through the programme, young people develop the technical, creative and problem solving skills that are increasingly essential within the local economy.
The event showcased a range of innovative digital projects created by students, demonstrating their growing skills and potential to contribute to the region’s growth as a hub of innovation, with organisers grateful to all participating schools, teachers, industry judges and partners who helped make this programme such a success.
Student innovators from St Joseph’s High School, Crossmaglen, won the top prize for a prototype travel App named Atlas which they developed for people going on holiday where they could store all their relevant documents in a digital format.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Philip Campbell, who attended the event, praised the talent demonstrated by all the students.
“It is a real pleasure to join you today and witness the creativity, ambition and technical talent that has grown through the Digital Makers Programme,” he told students.
“This initiative is a shining example of the kind of forward thinking investment that helps shape the future of our district. I would also like to offer my warmest congratulations to the winning team from St Joseph’s High School whose project truly stood out.”
Cllr Campbell added: “The ideas and digital solutions developed by these young people show imagination, teamwork and a willingness to take on a challenge — qualities that will serve them well wherever their future paths may lead.”
The Council Chairperson thanked teachers, school staff and judging panel whose support and expertise helped elevate the programme.
