Council launches ‘Make it Local’ Summer Campaign
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is set to launch a new 'Make it Local' campaign this summer, encouraging residents and visitors to discover and support the wealth of local goods, services, experiences and attractions across the district. By showcasing a snapshot of what the area has to offer, the campaign aims to strengthen the local economy while helping to build thriving, resilient and sustainable communities.
Launching on Monday 13 July under the strapline, ‘This Summer, Make it Local’, the campaign will showcase the friendly faces behind some of the district’s independent businesses, from long-established local favourites to exciting new ventures.
The campaign will highlight the distinct character, quality and diversity of small businesses, local attractions and experiences across the district. Overall, the initiative is designed to encourage residents to rediscover and appreciate all that their city, towns and villages have to offer this summer and beyond. From coffee catch-ups and a spot of shopping, to family day trips or trying a new leisure experience, we can all support the businesses, places and people that make the district special.
Featuring a mix of digital, print, social media and promotional PR, the campaign will spotlight businesses and visitor attractions across the city, towns and villages of Ballynahinch, Downpatrick, Kilkeel, Newcastle, Newry, Silverbridge and Warrenpoint.
The campaign will align with a range of key Council and regional events taking place throughout the summer, including the Ulster Fleadh 2026 in Warrenpoint (19-26 July), Rallye Lecale in Downpatrick (25 July), Wake the Giant in Warrenpoint (1–2 August), and the Eats and Beats Festival in Newcastle (5-6 September).
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Glyn Hanna, said,
"Summer is one of the most important periods of the year for our local economy, bringing opportunities for businesses, communities and visitors to come together and enjoy all that Newry, Mourne and Down has to offer.
“Through the Make It Local Summer Campaign, we are encouraging people to discover and support the many independent businesses that help define the character and vitality of our district.”
Councillor Hanna continued, "As we look forward to a packed programme of festivals, events and experiences across the coming months, this campaign serves as a timely reminder of the positive impact that choosing local can have. Every local purchase, visit and experience contributes to the success of our city, towns, villages and communities, helping to create a stronger, more resilient district while showcasing the very best of Newry, Mourne and Down."
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council would like to extend its thanks to the businesses who participated in the ‘Make it Local’ Summer campaign.
