Chair of Council Unfurls the Flag at Newry Bowling Green
The new Chairperson of Newry Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Naomi Bailie visited Newry Bowling Club as part of the special event of unfurling of the Northern Ireland Women’s Bowling Association Flag to open the bowling season for 2015.
This was a huge honour for the Newry area and a testament to the 27 years of development which has gone into the Newry Bowling Club. The success of the Newry Women’s Bowling team is legendary, having won their league ten years in a row and numerous other accolades.
Councillor Bailie took the opportunity to congratulate Mrs Sadie Rice who has been elected as President of the Northern Ireland Women’s Bowling Association, the first time this honour has come to Newry. Sadie is a founder member of the Club and has played a major part in bringing the Club to where it is today.
Councillor Bailie also paid tribute to the Council’s Grounds Maintenance team who do great work maintaining the bowling green which requires cutting four times per week and concluded by wishing the Club every success in the future.
