Trophy Tour Scores with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council
Six Nations and Triple Crown trophies proved to be a hit as they went on display at Newry Leisure Centre on Tuesday 14 August. Visitors gathered to see the trophies that are currently touring throughout the region.
This was a special occasion for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, which was pleased to be able to give the citizens of the district the chance to see the original trophies which are the pinnacle of rugby players’ achievements.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson, Councillor Oksana McMahon said, “This was an amazing opportunity for the Council to showcase these important trophies to our residents and visitors. Many of our citizens take part in rugby at all levels in our district; seeing these trophies was a special occasion and will only help to encourage them to even greater achievements in their sport.
“The Council is keen to promote sport and leisure, health and wellbeing through an extensive range of indoor and outdoor facilities and encourage everyone to Be Active. We are committed to inspiring everyone across the district to succeed at the highest level in their sporting activities and these trophies demonstrate just what can be accomplished.”
The Irish Rugby team was crowned Six Nations Champions in March 2018 after a hard fought campaign where they completed the Grand Slam against England, France, Italy, Scotland and Wales.
