Shane O'Neill's Football Team Heads to China

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew hosted a reception on Thursday 21 December 2017 in District Council Offices, Monaghan Row for Shane O Neill’s Ladies Senior Football Team, which is travelling to China for a two week period from 29 December until 11 January. 

The Team, which consists of 26 players and 4 mentors, have been invited to visit China to demonstrate and coach Gaelic Football.  The trip is facilitated and funded through the Confucius, a branch of the Chinese Ministry of Education Institute, based in University of Ulster, Jordanstown.  This visit is classed as an academic and cultural exchange under the Study in China programme. 

Wishing the team every success on the visit, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “This will be a historic and unique opportunity to promote sport and traditions. It also represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience and learn so much of this rich culture and fascinating country”.
