Play Strategy for Children and Young People in Your Area
Newry Mourne and Down District Council is pleased to announce the launch of it’s Play Strategy.
The Strategy will act as the guidance document to develop if needed or create a more efficient, effective play provision within Newry, Mourne and Down District. The strategy will also give guidance to the Council over the next five years where the Council is required to continue to monitor policy areas and develop those highlighted in areas which fall short of the Play Guidance detail.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “I am delighted that the Council has able to produce the Play Strategy. The launch is a major achievement for our District in order to provide for both fixed and free play projects for all children and young people. I look forward to implementing the strategy so that we can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in the area.”
In addition to the individual recommendations made about fixed play areas (based on play value audit findings) a number of overarching recommendations are made for consideration by the Council. They are both strategic and operational and will include inclusive play opportunities and development of new fixed play areas.
It was also recommended that areas that have been identified as potentially requiring new fixed play development includes areas such as Mayobridge which will be undertaken within year one of the programme of works.
