PCSP Hosts Coffee Mornings With Cops
The Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and the PSNI are continuing their ‘Coffee With Cops’ engagement initiative across the Newry, Mourne and Down District with the first coffee morning in the new rota being held on Monday 20 June in The Galley, Annalong.
Chair of the Newry, Mourne and Down PCSP, Councillor Mickey Larkin, said, “This is a welcome community engagement initiative supported by the PCSP. The PSNI often fight not just crime, but community distrust and disapproval and this project, a continuation of the PSNI clinic, will support the community in getting to know their local officers especially now with the changes within Council and PSNI.”
The programme will continue every Monday at 11am in one of the many coffee houses throughout the district. The next coffee morning will take place at Canal Court Hotel Newry on Monday 27 June and will visit the following venues in the upcoming weeks; Oakley Fayre Downpatrick (4 July) Costa Coffee Damolly Retail Park Newry (11 July), Costa Coffee Downpatrick (18 July), Café Crème Newcastle (25 July), Fiveways Newry (1 August), AJ’s Crossgar (8 August), Finegan and Son Kildare Street Newry (15 August), Nikki’s Newcastle (22 August) and McCooey’s Hill Street Newry (29 August).
Newry City Neighbourhood Inspector, Jacquie Gillespie added, “The local neighbourhood police teams have been working hard to build relations and improve engagement and have done so successfully over the past number of years in partnership with community groups and other statutory bodies. However recent structural changes, including the introduction of local policing teams and budget restrictions, have prompted a review of how best to continue and build upon existing relationships and this is just one example of how we aim to achieve that.”
