Community Plan Launched
The first Community Plan for Newry, Mourne and Down has been published.
The Plan represents a vision of how public services can be better planned and delivered, and has five key outcomes which we hope will improve the quality of life for all residents in Newry, Mourne and Down.
These five key outcomes hope to ensure everyone has a good start in life and fulfils their lifelong potential; enjoys good health and wellbeing; benefits from prosperous communities; enjoys a clean, good quality and sustainable environment and lives in respectful, safe and vibrant communities.
The Plan covers the period from now until 2030 and over the past two years Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has worked closely with the community and its partners to identify the most important issues for residents in the district.
Council is currently focused on preparing action plans to support the achievement of these outcomes and aim to publish the first series of these by Summer 2017.
Supporting the Community Plan is a Strategic Partnership Board which is comprised of the many public, community and voluntary sector organisations in our area.
There are important links with the seven District Electoral Area Fora, which were established by Council to provide communities with an opportunity to shape the future of their local area.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “I am delighted that we have been able to produce the first ever Community Plan for our area. This launch is a major achievement not just for our Partnership, but for our wider District, and I look forward to implementing the plan so that we can make a real difference to the lives of local people”.
