Chairperson Hosts Visit of St. Dallan’s Primary School, Warrenpoint to Downpatrick
On Friday 19 February, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane hosted the visit of Primary 7 pupils from St. Dallan’s Primary School, Warrenpoint.
The first stop for the pupils and their teachers was Down County Museum where they were given a tour of the old gaol, which dates back to 1796 while also getting the chance to view the ‘Down Through Time’ exhibition as well as the new Downpatrick High Cross Extension.
The students then paid a visit to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Downpatrick Offices where they were given a tour of the Downshire Civic Centre, with Chairperson Ruane giving a short presentation on the role and work of the Council. Following the presentation the pupils had the chance to ask questions and learn about all the services the Council provides.
Councillor Ruane said “I was delighted to host the visit this morning for the pupils from St. Dallan’s as it was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn about the Council and our district, while also getting a chance to see the first class Down County Museum. A visit such as this helps in the understanding that the Council belongs to everyone within our entire district and provides services for all.”
Mike King, Director of Down County Museum said “I was delighted to welcome St. Dallan’s Primary School, Warrenpoint to the museum where we have fantastic curriculum related sessions and resources available for school visits”.
In concluding Councillor Ruane thanked the teachers for taking time out of their busy schedules to facilitate the visit.
