Local Singer-Songwriter and Reformation Play Top the Bill This Weekend at Down Arts Centre
Down Arts Centre is delighted to welcome back award-winning County Down singer-songwriter, Brigid O’Neill, as part of an Irish tour to celebrate the release of her brand new album ‘Touchstone’, on Friday 10 November.
With her unique blend of country/folk mixed with a delicious dash of jazz – Brigid will be performing songs from her brand new album and will undoubtedly sing favourites from her critically acclaimed EP ‘Arrivals and Departures’ too.
A regular visitor to Nashville, where she has performed at the world famous Bluebird Café, Brigid has been collaborating on exciting new material with Grammy award-winning songwriters based there. An artist continually in forward motion, reviews have been strong with Pure M magazine describing her material as ‘adventurous and touchingly beautiful.’
Joined by top class musicians, Brigid’s beautiful voice, memorable lyrics and on-stage banter makes for a captivating live show not to be missed. Tickets are priced £12 and £10 for concession. The performance starts at 8pm with bar facilities from 7pm.
Also at Down Arts Centre, the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation is being marked by an iconic play following its leading protagonist, Martin Luther, on Saturday 11 November.
Presented by Centre Stage Theatre Company, ‘Luther’ is a remarkable dramatisation of John Osborne’s Tony award-winning play that delivers a vivid portrayal of the sixteenth century monk who publicly spoke out against the archaic customs and corruption within Catholicism.
As one of the most significant and influential playwrights of 20th century theatre, John Osborne is best known for his ground breaking ‘Look Back in Anger.’ His play ‘Luther’ revisits the Reformation and gives a powerful portrait of the role of monk, Martin Luther, as he agonises with his doubts, disillusions and subsequently the consequences of his world shattering cry for church reform. The show starts at 8pm with bar facilities from 7pm. Tickets are priced at £12 and £10 for concessions.
