Chairperson Celebrates Ulster Premier League Champions
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew recently hosted a civic reception for the Kilkeel Hockey Men’s Team, held in Kilkeel High School on Saturday 28 April.
The reception was held to celebrate the success of the team in the 2017/18 season when the Club won the prestigious Ulster Premier League title and the Kirk Cup for the first time in the Club’s history.
Congratulating the team, Councillor Mulgrew said, “I am delighted to be able to join in the hockey team celebrations and mark this historic occasion for the Club. Winning trophies doesn’t come easy. Players must demonstrate a great deal of dedication and commitment, giving up their time to train and to maintain peak fitness. This year’s success will ensure that Kilkeel Hockey raises the profile of our area in the sporting arena.
“Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has always endeavoured to promote all sports and to recognise achievement. Indeed, the Council was very much involved in the upgrade of your facilities over the summer in 2017 and I can assure we will continue to support the Club in every-way possible.
“Once again, my congratulations; on behalf of the Council I wish the Club continued success in the future.”
During the reception, Councillor Mulgrew presented the Club with an engraved crystal bowl to mark their achievements.
