Bulky Waste Collection Service

We offer a Bulky Waste Collection Service. This is to help residents get rid of large household items that can’t go in a standard black bin. This service must be booked in advance by contacting the Council.

We can collect:

• Large electrical appliances (fridges, freezers, washing machines, white goods)
• Wooden furniture (wardrobes, tables, chairs, drawers)
• Bicycles
• Sofas and armchairs
• Mattresses and beds
• Carpets and soft furnishings

We cannot collect:

• Kitchen or bathroom fittings
• Asbestos
• Building materials or plasterboard
• Car batteries
• Dead animals
• Garden sheds, trees or garden waste
• Glass or hardcore
• Oil, grease or oil tanks
• Paint tins
• Pianos
• Small electrical items (kettles, toasters, etc.)

Please note: Small electrical items can be taken to your local Household Recycling Centre for proper disposal.

This service is for household waste only. We do not collect business or commercial waste

Service Requirements 

• Items must be put outside 72 hours before collection.
• Council staff will spray items with disinfectant before removal.
• If anyone in your home is self-isolating, please let the Council know before collection.

Collection Days

Newry and Mourne area: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Down area: Wednesday and Thursday

Fees

The cost is £12.75 per collection.
You can include up to five items per collection. Payment must be made before.

How to Book

To book a bulky waste collection:

Call 0330 137 4047
Payment can be made by credit or debit card over the phone. You’ll be given a collection date.
All items will be collected between 8am and 5pm on that day.

Refunds

If you need to cancel, contact us at least 48 hours before your collection date to get a refund.
If you cancel later than this, the payment is non-refundable.
