Newry Leisure Centre

Service Disruption *Swimming Pool, Newry Leisure Centre*

Newry Leisure Centre Swimming Pool is currently closed due to an issue with the hydraulic system of its moving floor.

We are currently working with specialist contractors to address this issue to ensure the swimming pool is reopened as soon as possible.

A further update will be issued early next week in relation to anticipated re-opening timescales. 

Contractors will arrive onsite with their diving team on Friday morning to commence the repair process. This will involve the removal of the hydraulics, transportation to England for repair before being returned to Newry Leisure Centre where it will be reinstalled by the specialist team.

We are acutely aware of the inconvenience this unforeseen situation has had on our service users. We sincerely apologise and appreciate your understanding during this time.

Council Swim Lessons/School Swimming

Centre management have contacted all bookings/attendees directly regarding the cancellation of council swim / school swim lessons. 
For children currently enrolled in Council swimming lessons, the last 2 sessions are now cancelled.  A credit will be issued for these missed lessons which can be redeemed against future swimming lessons.

For children who are at the highest lesson level and do not need to re-enrol, or should a child not wish to return to lessons, a refund for these two missed weeks will be issued. Leisure staff will contact parents/guardians regarding this. 

Club and Commercial Bookings

Centre management have been in touch with the designated points of contact for each club and commercial bookings to provide updates and discuss alternative arrangements.

Autism Swim Sessions

Centre management have contacted all online bookings regarding the cancellation of swim sessions this week.  For bookings relating to the upcoming weeks, staff will continue to contact all online bookings directly, providing any further updates. 

Memberships

For members of Newry Leisure centre who have pool usage included in their membership and who pay monthly by Direct Debit, financial adjustments will be made to their April direct debit to reflect these closures.

Going to the gym, swimming pool or fitness class

You can go to the gym in Newry Leisure Centre at your convenience and there is no need to book in advance. 

You can come along to the swimming pools in Newry Leisure Centre at your convenience Monday to Friday every week.  There will be no need to book your swim session in advance during the week, you can simply ‘walk in’ to book, pay and attend your swim session.  

Newry swimming pool can be very busy at weekends and we aim to avoid disappointment for those travelling a distance or taking young children swimming. You must book in advance via the NMD Be Active app to ensure entry at your chosen time slot at weekends. You can also book your weekend swimming slot here

If you purchase a general swimming ticket you will have access to the main pool, learner pool and leisure pool.  


Please note: Swimming pools and health suites in Newry Leisure Centre will close every Wednesday between 2pm and 3pm for staff training.

You must book all fitness classes in advance on the NMD Be Active app or online. You can also book by phone by calling 0330 137 4026.

Soft Play

Soft Play in Newry Leisure Centre is now open to the public.  You can simply come along and pay for your session at Reception.

Admission Policy

Newry, Mourne and Down Leisure Centres currently operate the following admission policy for its users.

  • All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a responsible adult (at least 16 years old) at all times.
  • An adult (aged 16 or over) may accompany:-

        - 1 child under the age of 4.
        - 2 children where at least one of the children is aged over 4 years.

  • In addition to the above, non-swimmers (children) must wear a secure flotation device such as fitted armbands or a buoyancy aid.
  • Those under 16 years may not use the Health Suite.
  • Any person under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be refused admission.

Our Customers Safety

We encourage our customers to wear face masks in communal areas, make full use of hand sanitiser stations throughout our buildings and social distance in busy areas where possible.  Do not attend our leisure centres if you feel unwell or are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms. Please note, that if we experience significant demand for our services and we need to ensure the safety of our customers, we may in some cases have to reintroduce session booking.
