Council Launches Exciting Be Active Summer Programme 2026

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is delighted to officially launch the Be Active Summer Programme 2026, with bookings opening from 10am on Monday 15 June for another exciting summer of sport, recreation and fun across the district.

Running throughout July and August, the programme is designed to keep children and young people active, engaged and entertained during the school holidays through a wide variety of activities suitable for all ages and abilities.

The programme includes a broad range of opportunities across Council leisure facilities, including outdoor and indoor swimming, multi-sports camps, basketball, squash, table tennis and much more. Inclusive programmes are also available to support participation for all children and young people.

Welcoming the launch of the programme, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Glyn Hanna said, “The Be Active Summer Programme continues to play an important role in encouraging children and young people to stay active, social and engaged throughout the summer months. We are proud to offer a wide range of affordable and inclusive activities that support healthy lifestyles and provide enjoyable experiences for families across the district.

“With something for everyone to enjoy, I would encourage parents and guardians to explore the programme and take advantage of the fantastic opportunities available this summer.”

The summer programme highlights include:

• Multi-Sports camps for primary school-aged children
• Teen Activity Week
• Inclusive Camps for children with neurodiversity such as autism and ADHD
• Autism-friendly swim sessions
• Teen Gym Sessions
• Outdoor swimming opportunities at the Tropicana at the Newcastle Centre
• A range of Council-supported sports and recreational activities across the district

All activities are delivered by qualified staff in safe and supportive environments, ensuring children and young people can enjoy a positive and active summer experience.
