Litterpick Support Requests

Litterpick Support Requests

We will loan one litter pack per group (containing a max of six litter pickers, supply of bags and gloves). Please note, we do not loan out individual litterpickers.

To book a pack email: besustainable@nmandd.org providing the date and location of your proposed clean-up and a day time contact telephone number. You should give at least one week’s prior notice.

You will be contacted regarding arrangements to collect your pack from us.  All borrowed litterpickers should be returned to the Council after use. If you require litterpickers to keep, see the information below regarding Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’s Adopt a Spot Scheme.

Please note the following important information: Volunteers carrying out a clean-up will not be insured by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. They undertake the clean-up at their own risk and must ensure that a full risk assessment and appropriate Public Liability insurance are in place prior to undertaking a clean-up. Particular caution should be displayed when litter picking on roadsides or near bodies of water and all participants should be advised to be aware of potentially dangerous items such as syringes, canisters of chemicals etc which should be left undisturbed and reported to the local Council. For further guidance please refer to Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’s “Hints and Tips Guide, Organising A Clean Up” by clicking here.

Every effort should be made to sort as much of your collected waste as reasonably possible (i.e. bag all cans, plastic bottles, intact glass bottles, wood etc separately) so that it can be sent on for recycling.

Adopt a Spot

If you require litterpickers to keep you should consider signing up to Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’s Adopt a Spot scheme. Adopt a Spot is a scheme that enables volunteers across Northern Ireland to adopt an area and look after it. As part of the scheme you will receive a free litter pack. For further details about the scheme and how to register to take part please click here.
