Service Update - #StormAmy
In line with the Met Office Yellow Weather Warning for Strong Winds from 2pm on Friday 3 October to 12midnight on Saturday 4 October 2025, some disruption to our services is expected:
Household Recycling Centres: Household Recycling Centres will be CLOSED from 1pm on Friday 3 October reopening on Monday 6 October.
Parks and Community Trails: The district’s Forest/Country Parks (Castlewellan, Delamont, Kilbroney, Slieve Gullion), Warrenpoint Municipal Park and Community Trails, Play Parks and Open Spaces will be CLOSED to cars and pedestrians on Friday and Saturday due to the increased likelihood and risks associated with falling branches and debris. The Forest/Country Parks will REOPEN subject to safety inspections on Sunday. All associated facilities (Cafes, Caravan Parks, Forest drives, Mountain Bike trails etc) will be CLOSED.
Please note that there will be some delays in the re-opening of the Forest/Country Parks on Sunday 5 October. The Mountain Bike Trails will open once full safety inspections are completed. We will endeavour to reinstate public access as soon as possible.
Harbours: Newcastle and Killough harbour gates will be CLOSED on Friday and Saturday. There is no access for pedestrians or vehicles.
Council is advising the public not to visit forests, country parks and coastal sites in vehicles or on foot. Please keep an eye on our social media channels for further updates.Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.
