Newry Water Festival 2025 is a Huge Success
The Albert Basin, Newry was the setting for a lively celebration of outdoor activity on Monday 25 August, as families and individuals from across the district gathered for the Newry Water Festival 2025.
The free event, organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Newry DEA and the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme, and supported by the Department for Communities, Arbour Housing, Radius Housing and Newry BID offered an exciting programme of activities including canoeing, paddle boarding, a climbing wall and outdoor games. With experienced instructors on hand, participants of all ages and abilities were able to try something new in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson, Councillor Geraldine Kearns, attended the festival and took the opportunity to meet with families, activity providers and community representatives. Speaking after the event, she said, “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves at the Newry Water Festival. The atmosphere was incredible, with families coming together to take part in activities that were fun, engaging and inclusive. Events like this are important for promoting health, wellbeing and community spirit. I want to thank everyone who attended and the staff and partners who made the day possible.”
The festival highlighted the Council’s ongoing commitment to encouraging active lifestyles, supporting inclusion and creating opportunities for residents to enjoy the district’s outdoor spaces.
