Hidden Gems at Home Showcases Local Tourism Experiences in Mourne Gullion Strangford
From mountain trails to coastal escapes, local residents got a taste of the incredible experiences on their doorstep at Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s, Hidden Gems at Home tourism showcase, on Saturday 14 March.
With over 50 tourism providers exhibiting in the charming surroundings of Down County Museum, the showcase highlighted the outstanding range of outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, food and drink offerings, wellness activities and unique accommodation available throughout the district.
Speaking about the event, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Philip Campbell said, “Hidden Gems at Home successfully showcased the incredible tourism experiences we have right here in Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark. It was fantastic to see so many residents engaging with local businesses and discovering new places to explore within their own district.”
Visitors had the opportunity to meet directly with local businesses, learn about experiences and gather inspiration for future day trips, short breaks and staycations close to home. From guided mountain walks and water-based activities to artisan food tastings, heritage attractions and luxury glamping retreats, the event demonstrated the depth and quality of the district’s tourism offering.
The event reinforced the importance of supporting local tourism providers and celebrating the unique experiences that make Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark such a special place to live and visit.
