Newry, Mourne and Down District Council brought its Giant Adventures series for 2025 to a magical close with Footsteps in the Forest, held from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 October in Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
Celebrating the ancient festival of Samhain, this year’s event once again captured the imagination of visitors from near and far. Thousands of people embarked on the illuminated trail through the forest, encountering costumed characters, mythical creatures and captivating storytelling along the way. The atmospheric setting of Slieve Gullion provided the perfect backdrop for an experience that blended legend, light and Halloween wonder.
Footsteps in the Forest continues to grow in popularity each year, delighting audiences of all ages while highlighting the area’s rich folklore and the breathtaking landscapes of the Ring of Gullion. The week-long programme featured dedicated autism-friendly sessions and the final night included Irish language sessions, continuing the Council’s commitment to inclusivity and celebrating local culture.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Philip Campbell said, “We are thrilled by the continued success of Footsteps in the Forest, which has become one of the most anticipated events in our Giant Adventures calendar. The event brings the story of Samhain to life in a unique setting and continues to attract visitors who want to experience the magic, myth and mystery of Slieve Gullion.”
