Council Launches New Online Booking System for Large Vehicle Access to Household Recycling Centres

Local residents using a vehicle over 1.95 metres in height to transport waste from their own home to the Council’s Household Recycling Centres can access a new online booking system.

The system, which goes live on Friday 13 January for booking from Monday 16 January, will initially be available at Downpatrick, Castlewellan, Kilkeel and Camlough Household Recycling Centres. Further sites will be made available for booking from 23 January.

There is no cost to residents to access this service. Householders can still bring their own waste in cars without booking a slot.

Online bookings can be made a minimum of one day in advance by visiting the Council’s Corporate website via www.newrymournedown.org/hrc or by telephoning the Waste Management Team on 0330 137 4047. 

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage said, "I'm delighted that we are now able to introduce this new booking system, it will allow those residents with larger vehicles to access Household Recycling Centre sites to recycle any household items that they are not able to dispose of in the domestic refuse collection service. By recycling right, both at the kerbside collection point and at Household Recycling Centres, all residents are able to ensure we, as a district, meet our current recycling target of 50% and achieve the 70% recycling target by 2030.”

Residents should ensure they attend within their time slot, bring their booking confirmation (on a mobile device or printed copy) and must comply with the HRC sites entry conditions. 

This new system is for household waste only, commercial access for recycling is not yet permitted and general waste from businesses, traders or charities is not accepted at any time.

Residents who wish to dispose of large household items, such as furniture or large electrical items, can alternatively book a bulky collection service with the Council to have up to 5 large items collected from their property for £10.90 at https://www.newrymournedown.org/bulky-collection-service.
