Council Hosts Sea-Fit Wellness Event for Harbour Workers in Kilkeel
Harbour workers in Kilkeel availed of free health and wellbeing support during a recent Sea-Fit Wellness Event, held on Friday 11 July. Organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Health Inequalities Team and the Mournes District Electoral Area Forum (DEA), the event was delivered in partnership with the Fishermen’s Mission.
Over 25 participants took part in the session, which offered basic health checks, a taster exercise class, and access to a range of health and wellbeing information. The initiative aimed to improve access to men’s health services and raise awareness of the importance of proactive health care among harbour workers in the area.
This event is part of a wider programme of health and wellbeing initiatives being rolled out across the Mournes DEA, reflecting the Council’s continued commitment to supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of residents in both rural and coastal communities.
Council extends its gratitude to the various agencies and teams who supported the event, including the Council's Ethnic Minority Support Centre, Be Active Team, Cancer Focus, PIPS, Volunteer Now, Community Health Worker and Faith Donaldson Optometrist.
