Chairperson Hosts Civic Reception to Celebrate Upper Crossgare Pipe Band’s World Championship Success
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne, hosted a Civic Reception on Wednesday 23 April to honour the remarkable achievements of Upper Crossgare Pipe Band, Dromara.
The band was celebrated for their success at the 2024 Grade 4A World Pipe Band Championships, held at Glasgow Green last August. The reception recognised the band’s outstanding accomplishment in securing the title of World Champion Drum Corps — a prestigious accolade that underscores their talent, discipline and passion for pipe band music.
Speaking at the event, Chairperson Councillor Byrne said, “It’s a real honour to welcome Upper Crossgare Pipe Band and celebrate this incredible achievement. Securing the title of World Champion Drum Corps is a testament to the hard work, precision and passion of every member. This success not only reflects the band’s dedication but also showcases the rich musical heritage of our district. We are immensely proud of what you have accomplished on the world stage.”
He continued, “Upper Crossgare Pipe Band has long been recognised for its drive to achieve top results. I am extremely impressed that, in addition to their drum corps victory, Upper Crossgare Pipe Band was placed fourth overall in the highly competitive Grade 4A category. This speaks volumes about the consistency and calibre of the entire band.”
He added, “I would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all band members who have dedicated themselves to perfecting their craft. Your hard work is at the heart of this success and on behalf of the Council, I am incredibly proud of what you’ve accomplished.”
To mark the occasion, Chairperson Councillor Byrne presented the band with a crystal bowl in recognition of their exceptional achievements and their contribution to the cultural life of the district. He also took the opportunity to thank the many volunteers supporting the band behind the scenes, whose dedication ensures the smooth running of practices, events, and competitions.
Upper Crossgare Pipe Band continues to inspire both the local community and the wider piping world with their commitment and excellence.
