Castlewellan’s Commuters, Shoppers and Local Trade Benefit from New Bann Road Park ‘n’ Share
Castlewellan will now benefit from a brand new Park ‘n’ Share facility on the Bann Road, freeing up much needed parking spaces in the town’s centre.
A £155,000 investment by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure, has provided 77 new Park ‘n’ Share spaces for commuters wishing to park their vehicles and travel onwards to their destination in a shared vehicle.
The provision of the facility will ease the pressure for parking in Castlewellan’s Main Street and the Upper and Lower Square parking areas, which will assist patrons accessing local businesses. It will also reduce congestion and emissions in the town
At the opening of the facility on Wednesday 8 June, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage said, “The Park ‘n’ Share at Bann Road provides commuters, who occupy essential parking spaces within the town centre, with easy and assessable parking where they can meet up with fellow travellers to share transportation for the remainder of their journey. Not only does the facility benefit commuters but shoppers should now find town centre parking much more assessable which in turn assists with Castlewellan’s local economy.”
