Future Potential Projects
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is involved in a number of other regeneration projects.
Castlewellan Forest Park
The Council has set up the Castlewellan Forest Park Task and Finish Project Board.
The Forest Park is owned by the Forestry Service Northern Ireland. The Council has a number of agreements in place with the Forestry Service to operate recreational activities.
The Council is working with the Forestry Service with a view to submitting a funding application to the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Park is steeped in history with wonderful heritage, such as the Moorish Tower, the Grange, the Castle and the Annesley garden and Arboretum.
The Board will make this application to The Heritage Lottery Fund. The members are working to develop a vision for the Forest Park, and identify suitable project(s) for the funding application.
A public consultation event was held on 1 February 2017 in Castlewellan, the report can be accessed here: (attachment)
