Cleaner, Greener Communities
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council receive numerous requests from members of the public annually for assistance with litter picks in their local areas. The Council know that there is a huge demand from community groups throughout the district to take positive, environmental and local action against litter. We understand that groups may not necessarily have their own litter pickers, vests, bags and gloves to enable them to carry out these positive environmental improvements.
The ‘Cleaner, Greener Communities’ initiative will offer direct assistance to those community groups who commit to carry out two litter picks during May and June 2019.
The initiative also requires groups to raise awareness at a local level of the two other important issues, dog fouling and food waste recycling.
Interested community groups must register to take part by completing the Expression of Interest Form and returning it by Friday 26 April 2019. Spaces are limited.
All registered groups who have completed their actions will be invited to a celebration event in July 2019 where their efforts will receive civic recognition.
